I'm researching what software has been made that might help me out, and the best one I can find is german and doesn't work out of the box, and is low on documentation. I dread having to code an event management platform, and would rather patch an existing (good) one. It's starting to seem that won't be possible.

Figured out what to do with @tweetup_

Ok, so, I wanted to have a thin announce stream for tweetups but didn't know how to do it. Originally I was going to use the better twitter bot for lotd when today I ran across grouptweet which is basically that bot, but hosted elsewhere. Way cool.

The current plan for @tweetup_ is to follow back group leaders and group accounts (some tweetup groups have their own accounts), and let them just dm with their message. I set up a page on announcements to explain this, but since I suck at prose I think it could be better, so please let me know of any improvements or ideas you may have in the comments. The way it is now is not how I want tweetups.org to be months from now, but getting something workable up as fast as possible was a goal and I think this is it.

What side benefits does this have? Well, apart from the option for flash tweetups (a kind of flash mob tweetup) to quickly say, "hey, I'm at iPhoneDevCamp, let's have a tweetup at the bar at 6pm today!" over the system. This only works, however, if as many people who are interested in tweetups subscribe to @tweetup_. That's why it is announce only, no fluff, so that it is silly NOT to follow @tweetup_. Tell your friends. :)

Finally set up a blog

After getting the dead account @tweetup, I set up a website for it.
